Squarespace is best known for websites, but it also lets you sell downloadable files. If you already have a Squarespace site, or want a portfolio and a shop under one roof, it is a possible home for your PLR-based products. Here is how it looks on paper, based on Squarespace’s own pages as of October 2026. We have not tested it ourselves.
Plans and prices
Squarespace’s pricing page lists four plans: Basic from $19 per month, Core $29, Plus $49 and Advanced $99. The page offers an annual-billing toggle, and a higher set of prices appears for monthly billing, so check which one you are seeing. Every site starts with a 14-day free trial with no credit card required, according to the page.
Fees to know
- Store fee: The pricing page lists a 2% online store fee on Basic and 0% on Core, Plus and Advanced.
- Card processing: With Squarespace Payments, standard US cards are 2.9% + $0.30 on Basic and Core, 2.7% + $0.30 on Plus and 2.5% + $0.30 on Advanced.
- Digital content fee: A separate fee applies to digital content such as courses, videos and memberships: 7% on Basic, 5% on Core, 1% on Plus and 0% on Advanced. Squarespace’s support page groups downloads with its general commerce fees, so a plain file download should fall under the store fee, but confirm with Squarespace if you sell courses or members-only content.
How downloads work
Squarespace’s support article on download products sets some firm limits. Each product can hold one file of up to 300 MB, so a bundle must be zipped into a single archive. After purchase, the buyer gets download links that expire after 24 hours; an expired link triggers a new email. Customers can download more than once.
Some limits matter for PLR sellers. Download products cannot have variants or SKUs, cannot be sold as subscriptions, and customers cannot buy more than one download product at a time. You also cannot download your own uploaded files from the product, so keep your masters elsewhere.
Pros and cons
- Pros: One platform for site and shop, unlimited products on every plan per Squarespace’s pricing page, and a 14-day trial.
- Cons: One file per product, the one-product-at-a-time cart limit for downloads, and no variants, which makes tiered license options harder.
Who it suits
It fits sellers who want a polished website first and a small number of simple downloads second. If you sell many products, want upsells or need license-key delivery, compare it with Payhip, Gumroad or Sellfy. As with any platform, check that your PLR license allows the way you sell.
