Ko-fi Shop for Digital Downloads: An Overview for PLR Sellers (October 2026)

PLR ExpertReviews

Ko-fi is best known as a way for creators to accept tips, but it also has a built-in Shop for physical and digital products. If you sell PLR-based ebooks, printables or templates and already have an audience that supports you, it’s worth understanding what Ko-fi’s Shop can and can’t do.

This overview is based on Ko-fi’s own help center and pricing page, as of October 2026. We haven’t run a shop on Ko-fi ourselves, so treat this as a research summary rather than a hands-on review.

Fees as of October 2026

Ko-fi’s pricing page says the free plan charges a 5% service fee on shop sales, commissions and memberships. Simple tips have no service fee.

The paid Gold plan costs $12 a month, according to the same page, and removes the platform fee on all payment options. Ko-fi says Gold can renew monthly or annually, but the page we read didn’t list an annual price.

On top of Ko-fi’s fee, normal card processing fees apply. Ko-fi’s help center says payments go directly to your PayPal or Stripe account, with no holding period.

A quick way to think about it: at 5%, a $10 download costs you $0.50 in Ko-fi fees before processing. On the free plan, you’d pay the same $12 that Gold costs once you reach $240 in monthly shop sales. Above that, Gold may be cheaper, depending on your other Ko-fi income.

File limits and storage

Ko-fi’s help center lists these limits:

  • Free plan: up to 600 shop items, 25GB total storage and 2GB per file.
  • Paid tier: up to 1,500 items, 200GB storage and 5GB per file.

For most PLR products, such as PDFs, Canva template links and zipped article packs, the free limits are more than enough. Video-heavy courses are where the per-file limit could matter.

Features that suit digital sellers

  • Instant delivery. Buyers are sent to download their files automatically, and Ko-fi says they keep access if you update a file later.
  • File or link delivery. You can upload files or provide a link, which works well for Canva template links.
  • Pay what you want. Buyers can pay more than your minimum price.
  • Variants. Up to 15 per item, each with its own price. This is useful for offering personal-use and resell-rights versions of the same product.
  • Discount codes for your whole shop or specific categories.
  • Supporter-only items. You can limit products to monthly supporters or specific membership tiers.
  • Scheduled releases for new items.
  • Custom terms of up to 10,000 characters that buyers must accept before checkout. That’s a handy place to spell out your license terms and refund policy.

Limitations to weigh

  • Buyer accounts. Ko-fi says buyers who aren’t logged in are asked to create a Ko-fi account to access downloads. Some buyers may find that an extra step.
  • No reviews yet. Ko-fi’s help center says shop and item reviews aren’t available yet, so you can’t build social proof on the platform itself.
  • Disputes are on you. Ko-fi says disputes are handled directly between seller and buyer.
  • No license keys mentioned. If you sell software that needs keys, look elsewhere.
  • Tax is your responsibility. Ko-fi applies your default sales tax settings, but its help center advises checking with a tax advisor about what’s taxable. That’s good advice for any U.S. seller of digital goods, since rules vary by state.

Who Ko-fi Shop suits

Good fit:

  • Creators who already get tips or memberships on Ko-fi and want to add products in the same place.
  • Sellers with a modest catalog of PDFs, printables or template links.
  • Anyone who wants to sell supporter-only bonuses or member discounts.

Less ideal:

  • Sellers who want marketplace traffic. Ko-fi isn’t a search-driven marketplace like Etsy, so you’ll need to bring your own audience.
  • Sellers who need built-in email marketing, upsells or affiliate programs. The help article we read doesn’t cover those features, so check before you commit.
  • Large catalogs over the item limits.

Bottom line

Ko-fi’s Shop is a simple, low-commitment way to sell digital downloads if you already have an audience. The 5% fee on the free plan is easy to start with, and Gold becomes worth considering as sales grow. Just compare it with dedicated digital storefronts if you need marketing tools built in.

Prices and features change, so check Ko-fi’s official pages before you decide.
