Amazon has tightened how many new books a single Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) account can add each week, and the rule now covers both creating and submitting titles. If you publish ebooks or low-content books built from PLR, this changes how fast you can release them.
What changed
According to reporting in The Bookseller, summarized by Publishing Perspectives in late September, KDP cut its weekly limit on new titles from 10 to two per format. The limit applies separately to Kindle ebooks, paperbacks and hardcovers, and to every KDP account regardless of the tools used to make the books.
KDP’s own help page now lists two separate weekly limits:
- Creation limit: up to two titles per book format each week.
- Submission limit: up to two new titles per book format each week, counted the first time a title is submitted for publication.
Both reset every Sunday at 12:00 a.m. UTC, which is Saturday at 8:00 p.m. Eastern while daylight saving time is in effect. KDP says updates to titles you’ve already submitted don’t count toward the submission limit.
A roundup published October 9 by eBook pBook reports that the creation limit took effect September 21 and the submission limit was added to the same KDP announcement on October 5, so the rules shifted twice in about two weeks.
Why Amazon says it did this
Amazon told the press it is reviewing its policies and safeguards as technology and publishing change. It declined to say whether AI-generated books were the reason. Commentators have suggested mass-published AI content is the target, but that’s their reading, not something Amazon has confirmed.
What it means for PLR ebook sellers
- Plan releases in batches of two. A six-book series in one format now takes at least three weeks to get live. Drafts count toward the creation limit, so don’t set up a dozen drafts “for later.”
- Count each format. An ebook and a paperback of the same title are counted under separate formats, so a paired launch still fits in one week.
- Make every slot count. With only two new titles per format each week, a thin, lightly edited PLR book costs you a slot you could use for something stronger. That fits Amazon’s existing rules against undifferentiated content anyway.
- Check before you schedule. The limits have already changed more than once. Look at KDP’s help page before you plan a launch calendar or promise customers a date.
