Some buyers get as far as typing their email address at checkout, then close the tab. Maybe the phone rang, or they wanted to think about it. Payhip now has a built-in way to follow up with those people: cart abandonment recovery. If you sell PLR bundles, rebranded ebooks or printable packs on Payhip, it is a low-effort setting worth a few minutes of your time.
How Payhip’s cart abandonment emails work
According to Payhip’s help center, a cart counts as abandoned when a customer enters their email address at checkout and leaves without paying. Payhip then sends one reminder email 24 hours later. A customer who received a cart abandonment email in the previous seven days won’t get another, so repeat visitors aren’t flooded with reminders.
The feature is off by default. Payhip lists it in its 2026 product updates, so if you set up your store earlier, you will need to switch it on yourself.
Setting it up
- Log in to Payhip and open the cart abandonment settings.
- Turn on the “Enable cart abandonment” toggle.
- Write the subject line and message for the reminder email.
- Optionally, enable a discount coupon. If you do, place the
[coupon_code]tag in your message so the buyer sees the code.
Two limits to know: recurring and subscription checkouts are not supported, so a PLR membership won’t trigger these emails. And for buyers in the EU or UK, Payhip shows an email consent checkbox at checkout and only emails those who tick it.
Writing a reminder that fits a PLR product
- Name the product plainly. “Your 30-day meal planner pack is still waiting” is clearer than a generic “You left something behind.”
- Answer the usual hesitation. For PLR buyers, that is often the license. Add one line summarizing what they may do with the files and link to the full terms.
- Restate what’s included. File formats, page counts and whether editable source files come with it.
- Use discounts sparingly. A coupon in every reminder can teach regular customers to abandon carts on purpose. Many sellers start without one and test it later.
Check the dashboard
Payhip’s cart abandonment dashboard lists each abandoned cart with the email address, time, products, cart total and whether the customer later completed the purchase. Look at it after a few weeks. If one product is abandoned far more than others, the issue may be the sales page or the price rather than the follow-up email.
A reminder email is a transactional nudge, not a newsletter. To build ongoing relationships with buyers, pair it with a proper welcome email sequence.
