Claude Haiku 5.5: A Cheaper AI Model for Bulk Content Tasks

PLR ExpertAI Tools

Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5 on October 7, 2026. It’s the company’s new small, fast model, and the headline is price: Anthropic lists it at a fraction of what the previous Haiku cost through its API.

For most PLR sellers chatting in the Claude app, this is background news. But if you use the API, or tools built on it, to process content in bulk, it’s worth a look.

What Anthropic announced

  • Pricing (per million tokens, for prompts up to 100,000 tokens): $0.10 input and $0.50 output, according to Anthropic. Longer prompts cost $0.50 input and $2.50 output. Haiku 4.5 was $1 input and $5 output.
  • Effort control: Haiku 5.5 is the first Haiku-class model with an adjustable effort setting, so developers can trade cost against capability for each task.
  • Intended uses: Anthropic positions it for high-volume, cost-sensitive work such as summarization, classification and customer support, and as a helper model alongside its larger Sonnet and Opus models.
  • Availability: Anthropic says it’s available on its own platform and through major cloud providers, under the model ID claude-haiku-5-5.

Anthropic also says Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 remain the better choice for complex work. Its announcement doesn’t spell out which Claude app plans include Haiku 5.5, so check your app’s model menu.

Where it could fit in a PLR workflow

A cheap, fast model suits repetitive, well-defined jobs rather than your best writing. Examples:

  • Summarizing a batch of PLR articles so you can decide which ones to use.
  • Sorting or tagging a large content library by topic.
  • Drafting product descriptions, meta descriptions or social captions from your own notes, which you then edit.
  • Producing first-pass outlines that a stronger model, or you, will expand.

For a full rewrite of an ebook or a sales page, a larger model plus your own editing will usually give a better result.

Things to keep in mind

  • API pricing is usage-based. Test on a small batch and check your usage dashboard before running hundreds of files.
  • A cheaper model doesn’t remove the need to fact-check and edit. AI output can contain errors.
  • Rewriting PLR with AI doesn’t change what your license allows. Read the license terms first.
  • If you sell on platforms with AI disclosure rules, such as Amazon KDP, follow them.
