Adobe posted its monthly roundup of new Firefly features on September 18, 2026. None of the changes is dramatic on its own, but several are handy if you design covers, mockups, social graphics or short promo videos for digital products.
What’s new
- Video background removal. Firefly can now detect the subject in a clip and remove the background across the whole video, without frame-by-frame masking. That’s useful for course trailers or product promos where you want to place yourself or an object over a branded background.
- More aspect ratios for GPT Image 2. Adobe says the GPT Image 2 model, one of the partner models offered inside Firefly, now supports 10 aspect ratios instead of 3, on the web and in Boards. More sizes means fewer awkward crops for ebook covers, banners and pin graphics.
- Kling 3.0 Omni reference images. You can now add reference images when generating video with this partner model, in the Video Generation tab and in Boards.
- Longer prompts. Character limits for image and video prompts on the web have been increased, with Boards support listed as coming soon.
- A refreshed AI Assistant. Adobe says it adjusted the assistant’s tone to focus more on the user’s creative work.
Things to check before you use them
Adobe’s announcement doesn’t list which plans include each feature or how many generative credits they use, so check your plan and credit balance in your Adobe account before relying on them for a big project.
Also note the difference between Adobe’s own models and partner models. Adobe’s help page on partner models states that they aren’t developed by Adobe and that you’re responsible for deciding whether a model is appropriate for your project. If you sell what you create, read the terms that apply to the specific model you use.
Finally, if you sell on marketplaces, check their AI rules. Etsy, for example, requires sellers to disclose when an item was created with the help of AI.
Who will benefit most
Sellers who already use Firefly for product graphics will get the most from the extra aspect ratios and longer prompts. Course creators and coaches who make short videos may find background removal saves time. If you don’t use Adobe tools today, this update alone probably isn’t a reason to switch.
