Halloween falls on Saturday, October 31 this year, which leaves about three weeks to create and sell a small seasonal product. That’s not much time — but printables are one of the few products you can design, list and deliver within days.
Demand is there. The National Retail Federation’s annual survey, released in September, found that 74% of consumers plan to celebrate Halloween in 2026, with total spending expected to reach $13.5 billion. Plenty of that goes to physical goods, of course, but the activities people plan point to useful printable ideas.
Printable ideas that match how people celebrate
According to the NRF survey, the most popular plans include handing out candy (61%), dressing in costume (50%), and decorating the home or yard, carving pumpkins and watching scary movies (42% each). Each of those suggests a simple product:
- Pumpkin carving stencils. A pack of original, easy-to-trace designs at several difficulty levels.
- Movie night kit. A watch-list tracker, snack labels and a bingo card built around generic spooky themes.
- Party planner. A one-page timeline, shopping list, guest list and game cards for a family or classroom party.
- Costume planner. A worksheet for sizes, supplies, budget and deadlines — handy for families with several kids.
- Decor printables. Banners, door signs and table cards in a consistent style.
Keep it fast and simple
- Pick one idea and make it well, rather than starting five.
- Use standard US Letter size and also export an A4 version if you sell internationally.
- Deliver a print-ready PDF. If buyers can edit it, say exactly which app the template opens in.
- Write a clear listing that says how many pages are included and what buyers need to print them.
- Promote “instant download” — buyers shopping close to the 31st can’t wait for shipping.
Stay original
Avoid famous characters, movie titles and brand names; those belong to someone else. If you use PLR graphics or clip art, check that the license allows them in products for sale. And if you plan to sell on Etsy, read our summary of Etsy’s Creativity Standards first.
Make it work beyond this month
Save your files with the season in the name and keep notes on what sold. Next year you can update the design and list it in September, when about half of shoppers start buying, according to coverage of the same NRF survey. You can also turn the strongest pages into a fall or harvest version that keeps selling into November.
