Turn a PLR Freebie Into a Lead Magnet With Payhip

PLR ExpertMarketing & Traffic

A lead magnet is a free resource you offer in exchange for someone’s email address. PLR is a natural source for them: a short checklist, a mini-ebook or a set of templates can be rebranded and given away to attract the kind of buyer who will later want your paid products.

If you already sell on Payhip, you don’t need a separate tool to deliver the freebie. Payhip’s help center describes a simple setup.

Step 1: Check the license

Before you give anything away, read the PLR license. Most allow you to use content as a free giveaway, but some restrict it or require changes first. Rebrand it with your name, tweak the content for your audience and add a link back to your paid products.

Step 2: Create a $0 product

  1. Click “Add New Product” and create a digital product.
  2. Upload your freebie file.
  3. Set the price to $0 so people can download it for free.
  4. Save your changes.

If Payhip is only being used for the lead magnet, you can set that product as your store homepage so visitors land right on it.

Step 3: Connect your email service

Connect your email provider and link the list you want new subscribers to join. Payhip lists integrations with many services, including Kit (ConvertKit), MailerLite, Mailchimp, Flodesk, AWeber and others, plus Zapier for services that aren’t listed.

Payhip adds people who download the free product to your list. Note that customers in the EU see an opt-in checkbox at checkout for GDPR reasons; if they leave it unchecked, they won’t be added.

Step 4: Send a welcome email

Don’t let new subscribers go cold. Send a short welcome email that confirms the download, gives one quick tip for using it and points to a related paid product. If your email service supports automations, set this up to go out automatically.

A few ideas that work well

  • A one-page checklist pulled from a larger PLR ebook
  • A seven-day email course built from PLR articles
  • A small sample from a template pack, with the full pack for sale
  • A quiz or self-assessment worksheet that leads naturally into a paid workbook
